Ministry re-employes strike staff
24 Jul 2019
Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe says a total of 58 auxiliary staff were dismissed during the 2011 public service strike and all those who applied for pardon at the Directorate of Public Service Management were re-employed into the public service.
Only employees who were engaged on temporary terms were not re-employed.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Lelatisitswe said consideration for re-employment was determined by availability of positions, saying in addition, the auxiliary function had been declared redundant and all auxiliary staff were re-tooled and re-designated to health care assistants.
He was answering a question from Francistown South MP, Mr Winter Mmolotsi, who wanted parliament to be briefed on the number of auxiliary staff, who were dismissed after the 2011 public service strike, and how many had since been re-employed, and if he would consider re-employing those who were still unemployed even if it meant assigning them new duties.
