No strategy in place to absorb nursing graduates - minister
24 Jul 2019
Parliament has been informed that Ministry of Health and Wellness is constrained by lack of posts to absorb the annual nursing graduates, which on average is around 250 to 300.
Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe added that there was no strategy in place to absorb the graduates from various health institutions.
He said as part of health system strengthening, the ministry in collaboration with its development partners including the private sector, was in the process of developing a health sector strategy.
He added that the planned strategy would amongst others outline a human resource plan, which would determine the human resource demand and supply both within the private and public sectors of our economy.
He said absorption of nursing graduates was not only meant for the ministry, but for the wider health sector, which also included private establishment.
Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy had asked health and wellness minister whether government had short or medium and/or long term strategy to absorb unemployed graduate nurses, and if so, how many nurses would be employed annually. ENDS
