Programme registers 13 in Sebele - minister
23 Jul 2019
A total of 13 residents of Sebele Ward registered for the poverty eradication programme while no requests for the programme had been received by the Gaborone City Council from Glen Valley Barracks.
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni told Parliament that residents of Sebele Ward and Glen Valley were not denied access to the programme.
He said for residents to be packaged, it was required that beneficiaries provide evidence of availability of operational space, either proof of plot ownership, or if renting, proof that the landlord had consented to the plot being used for the programme.
He explained that of the 13 residents of Sebele, three were assessed and only one qualified for packaging and had been requested to provide evidence of availability of operational space. Of the remaining 10, eight were not found, one deceased while the other relocated.
He noted that there were no existing projects in the two areas.
Mr Shamukuni was responding to a question from Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa, who had asked why residents of Sebele Ward and Glen Valley in Gaborone North were being denied access to poverty eradication programmes.
He asked the minister to state how many had been assisted and the current status of their projects. ENDS
