Allocation of road maintenance to balance depot resources
23 Jul 2019
The decision to assign the maintenance of roads between Tutume and Maitengwe and its feeder roads to Changete and Dagwi to the Nata maintenance depot was based on the desire to balance work load with the resources available in both Francistown and Nata depots.
Responding on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo told Parliament that due to resource constraints, the ministry does not, currently have any plans to open a roads depot in Tutume.
Mr Mabeo, who is the Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, explained that the maintenance supervision of the road between Tutume and Maitengwe and its feeder roads to Changate and Dagwi was a function of the resource capacities of the depots under question.
He pointed out that the Francistown depot catered for a majority of road links in the northern part of the country.
He stated that allocating the supervision of the mentioned roads to Francistown depot would overstretch the depot and compromise the effectiveness of the maintenance of roads.
Nkange MP, Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the minister to explain reasons why maintenance of the road between Tutume and Maitengwe and its feeder roads to Changete and Dagwi was supervised from Nata Depot and not Francistown.
He had also wanted to know whether there were any plans to open a Roads Depot in Tutume. ENDS
