08 Jul 2019

Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) has officially opened 50 houses in Tutume for purchase and rental.

Officiating at the opening ceremony recently, Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Vincent Seretse said government had developed an all-encompassing housing policy to facilitate and stimulate construction and provision of houses for all income groups across all settlements.

Mr Seretse noted that the thrust of the policy was to provide affordable and decent housing units for low income groups as well as improve home ownership amongst Batswana.

“As government we are committed to ensuring that housing development projects are inclusive and spread across the length and breadth of the country,” he said.

He said they also endeavoured to put in place infrastructure development and services to facilitate community based projects such as roads, waste water, electricity reticulation and provision of potable water.

He said housing development was a critical economic activity which played an integral role in the socio-economic development of any nation, adding that it also promoted attaining dignified livelihoods and the well-being of individuals.

He said they derived pride from the successful planning, execution and delivery of a project that would be an integral part of the Tutume landscape and ease accommodation challenges in Nkange constituency.

“These housing units will greatly contribute to making Tutume an attractive place for investment,” he said.

BHC chief executive officer, Mr Reginald Motswaiso said they were pleased to hand over a project they had undertaken within the stipulated time frame.

Mr Motswaiso said the Tutume 50 project started in November 2017 to be completed in 52 calendar weeks at cost of P31 million.
