Inflation rate at 5.7

The July national annualised inflation rate stood at 5.7 per cent, compared to 5.8 per cent recorded in June, this year.

In its highlight of the national inflation, a press release from Statistics Botswana, said in July 2012, national inflation rate recorded a decrease from 7.3 to 5.7 per cent.  

Components that contributed to the decline in July inflation rate, according to the release, were: transport,  food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing, electricity, gas and other fuels, which went down by 3.6, 3.3 and  4.0 per centage points,  respectively.   “The urban villages’ inflation rate registered a 5.5 per cent in July in comparison to 5.8 per cent in June,” stated the release.

However, the release said the rural villages’ inflation rate dropped by 0.2 percentage point, from 6.6 per cent that was registered in June to 6.4 per cent in July, while cities and towns’ rate remained the same at 5.5 per cent.
