Ministry warns about fake Dr Dow social media account

26 May 2019

The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation warn members of the public of a scam circulating in social media involving a false facebook account and fake emails, alleging to be from the Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Unity Dow.

A press release from the ministry states that the facebook posting and the emails purport that Dr Dow has access to “international funders for small businesses” and that the recipient has been added to a list of beneficiaries eligible for international funding from the European Development Fund for small businesses.

The postings allege that the recipient is requested to make a payment of P2 600 to purchase some forms to apply for the alleged grant.

The ministry therefore informs the public that the emails are false and that Dr Dow is not involved in any international funding schemes for small businesses. The statement  further reminds that any information to do with financing of programmes aimed at uplifting the lives of Batswana is always shared through official government communication channels.

Further, the public is encouraged to contact the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation’s Department of Public Relations, Research and Information on 3600700 on any further enquiries to verify any information of such nature. Ends
