19 May 2019

Member of Parliament for Ngami, Mr Thato Kwerepe on May 17 handed over the sum of P100 000 to four villages in Etsha to be used in their clean up campaigns.

The clean-up campaign money was in March, pledged by World Group of Companies when they donated school uniform to the said villages’ primary schools, heeding a request by the area MP.

Okavango Sub-district Council is currently the custodian of the funds, while the money is going to be equally shared among Etsha 1, Etsha 6, Etsha 7 and Etsha 13, each village getting P25 000.

Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, Mr Kwerepe encouraged Etsha communities to use the funds wisely and for the purpose the money was intended.

He said communities could engage relevant stakeholders such environmental health officers during their clean-up campaigns for expertise advice.

Mr Kwerepe, who is also Assistant Minister of Basic Education, said Etsha villages should take this community based environmental initiative seriously as it was meant to inspire and empower communities to clean up and also conserve the environment.

He also noted that a safe, clean and healthy environment was everyone’s responsibility, adding that an unpolluted environment could also be a prevention measure to diseases that thrive in dirty surroundings.

The MP therefore said Etsha villages should be exemplary to others across the country to benchmark.

Meanwhile, Etsha 6 kgosi, Mr Joseph Seemeko commended Ngami MP for the aid he solicited from the private sector for his people, such as school uniform for all Etsha primary school children and the clean-up campaign money.

He said Mr Kwerepe was indeed a true leader who was always concerned about the lives of electorate. ENDS
