Malatswai residents acquire ranch

09 May 2019

Residents of Malatswai in the Central District have acquired a 6x7km ranch they had requested through the Remote Area Development Programme (RADP).

The ranch, equipped with a borehole and kraals, would be under the supervision of a syndicate owned by residents.

Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) Performance and Monitoring Committee (PMC) members and some village elders, toured the already fenced ranch on May 7.

They were, however, disappointed that the borehole solar panels were stolen and requested that the council replace them.

PMC expressed hope that with the commitment of beneficiaries, government would succeed in its endeavour to reduce poverty, especially as there were notable signs that poverty could be eliminated.

SAA public relations officer, Mr Onkabetse Ntwe, stated in an interview that farmers would be able to take better care of their livestock in the ranch.

He said the community was allocated the ranch through the RADP and the ranch constitution had to be finalized since it was to operate as a syndicate.

The acting senior council secretary, Mr Mogorosi Kokoro said the ranch would be used for livestock rearing. ENDS
