Companies listing essential

06 May 2019

Investment, Trade and Industry minister, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, has encouraged companies to list with Botswana Stock Exchange Limited (BSEL).

Ms Kenewendo said listed companies enjoyed growth since they appeared on the stock market board on daily basis thus earning publicity.

Speaking at a bell ringing ceremony recently, Ms Kenewendo said listing enhanced companies’ growth, hence encouraging companies to scale up their products and tap on the regional, continental and global market.

She said Botswana companies had potential to explore the global market and should not always think that they were producing for the over two million people in Botswana.

“Government is doing all it could to let Batswana access these markets,” she said.

Ms Kenewendo said her ministry was working on modalities that would make doing business in Botswana an easy thing, citing the introduction of the non-licensing of companies that did not deal with health and environmental issues stating that such companies should register with the ministry and start operating.

For his part Botswana Stock Exchange Limited chief executive officer, Mr Thapelo Tsheole, said they introduced the Tshipidi Mentorship Programme specifically for Batswana companies to be drilled on how to run business and corporate governance in order for them to know what was needed in the business industry.

For her part, the BSEL communications manager, Ms Thapelo Moribame encouraged companies to work hard and profile their companies for easy marketing and publicity.

She said the SMES were the cornerstones of growing the economy and were playing an important factor in most of the big economies in the world hence Botswana should also grab the opportunity. Ends
