Settlements benefit form Ipelegeng

13 Aug 2013

People at the Maunyele, Masoke, Diphawana and Molomakwane settlements benefit from employment under the Ipelegeng programme even though they do not reside in the main village, Parliament has been told.

Responding to a question, Assistant Minister of Locsal Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, said communication to such settlements was done through village development committees in those wards.

The projects being undertaken were located at these settlements, said Ms Tshireletso, adding that Molomakwane and Masoke were covered under Kgwakgwe ward and the projects undertaken there were vegetation control.

She highlighted that from April to July 2013, the cumulative employment for Malomakwane is 32, made of 23 females and nine males, while for Masoke there were 36 beneficiaries consisting of 19 females and 17 males.

For Diphawana settlement, which falls under Lotlhakane East ward, the project being undertaken was the de-bushing of a five kilometer road, and to date, the employment rate stood at 13 females and 23 males, the assistant minister said.

At Maunyale settlement, which falls within Gasita Selokolela ward, she said the project being undertaken is the maintenance of a 10 km drift fence, and the employment there stands at 21 females and 19 males.

Ms Tshireletso was responding to a question by Kanye South Member of Parlaiment, Mr Abram Kesupilke, who had wanted to know if the assistant minister was aware that the residents of the informal settlements of Maunyele, Masoke, Diphawana and Molomakwane, do not benefit systematically from employment under Ilpelegeng.

MP Kesupile said some reasons often advanced were that they do not reside in the main village thus they often miss out when notices are posted. He had also asked the assistant minister if she will consider engaging them in the maintenance of their dams, drift fence and gravel roads under the Ipelegeng programme. Ends
