Letlhakane hospital has dedicated water supply

04 Apr 2019

Letlhakane Primary Hospital has a dedicated water supply separate from the village.

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Biggie Butale said there was a 5 000 litre tank of water for use at the theatre and laundry.

He stated that there was also a separate tank that was bowsed to supply the wards when there was a water cut-off.

Mr Butale pointed out that there was an internal water reticulation problem within the hospital that prevented water to be relayed to the main storage tank. He said the problem was being corrected.

The assistant minister said the ministry was aware that water was essential for proper running of health services in a hospital setting to enhance optimal hygiene practices and maintaining infection control practices.

He said the absence of water could increase the risk of cross-contamination and infection, adding that the ministry has installed additional water storage tanks for backup at the laundry and theatre service points.

He said the system was considered for expansion to increase the capacity of the existing water backup.

The cost, he added, would be finalised following the design and tender documentation. In addition, he said the project was envisaged to take off during the 2019/2020 financial year.

MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked if the ministry was aware that Letlhakane Primary Hospital did not have a water backup system.

He also wanted the minister to state why that was necessary in relation to theatre wards, admitted patients and sanitation in the hospital.

He also asked what happened when there was no water in theatre, laundry and patients wards.

He also wanted to know when the backup system would be installed and the cost. ENDS
