02 Apr 2019

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlhogile Tshireletso has indicated her awareness regarding challenges faced by Boteti Sub-district Council transport unit in Letlhakane.

Ms Tshireletso said 14 vehicles out of 81 were currently parked at the Central Transport Unit in Boteti Sub-district Council. This, she said, included six light duty vehicles, seven heavy duty vehicles and one plant.

She stated that various reasons  such as electric work, faulty transmission, faulty suspension and seized engines were some of the reasons the vehicles were off-road.

The vehicles were parked on different dates ranging from June 2018 to February 2019.

Ms Tshireletso said she was aware that inadequate transport contributed to the slow implementation of both Ipelegeng and constituency community projects, adding that the council had nevertheless made concerted efforts to facilitate timeous delivery of projects.

She highlighted that maintenance of the vehicles was planned for the 2019/2020 financial year and would be completed by end of June 2019.

The assistant minister further noted that the officer in charge of the transport depot had been in Boteti Sub District since October 2015, and in accordance with the transfer guidelines by the ministry, officers at D4 and above were transferable after serving a minimum of five years in one station, hence there were no compelling reasons to transfer the officer.

Boteti East legislator, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister if she was aware of the challenges faced by Boteti Sub-district Council transport unit.

MP Lelatisitswe also wanted to know if the minister was aware that lack of transport was the reason why many Ipelegeng and constituency development projects were not implemented to date.

He further asked on the length of time that the officer responsible for managing the depot had taken in that position, and why it was difficult to transfer the officer. Ends
