School head applauds Multotec for help

28 Mar 2019

The school head of Sekoma Primary School, Ms Keitumetse Ragontse has applauded Multotec Botswana for its efforts in helping her school overcome hurdles and improve academic performance.

She expressed her appreciation when the company’s Jwaneng branch donated a photocopying machine and 35 pre-school graduation gowns, all worth P30 000 at Sekoma recently.

Ms Ragontse said the photocopying machine would be helpful in preparation of examination materials and office paperwork. She said since adopting her school in 2017, Multotec has had a significant impact in changing the school for the better.

“We are now capable of smoothly running day-to-day operations of the school. They started by painting all the classrooms and kitchen that were in a bad condition, and now pupils enjoy their learning environment,” she said.

Furthermore, she said other donations from the company in the past included stationery and P80 000 for general school operations and an additional P2 500 last year for the schools prize giving ceremony.

Ms Ragontse also said the donation of 35 gowns would go a long way in ensuring that the school was self-reliant, as they would be able to generate income by hiring the gowns to other schools.

The head of human resource at Multotec, Ms Florence Michael said they were grateful for assisting schools in their area of operation.

“It is our intention to assist government to take care of schools and help pupils reach their full potential for a better future. This is the main reason for our assistance,” she said. Ms Michael also said the donations were meant to boost the school’s pass rate to that of 2016 when it registered a 97 per cent pass rate in the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).

Ms Michael, who revealed that they have also adopted Maokane Primary School, said they intended to cater for both schools’ needs to ensure they focused on their core business of teaching.

Principal education officer for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Bonolo Njadingwe said the company’s goodwill resonated with their objective of ensuring that every child learned, and advised the company to continue supporting the school as research showed that pupils who were equipped with everything they needed tended to perform well.

Mr Njadingwe also encouraged the pupils to do their best and be an inspiration to other schools.

“Government wants to shift to exporting human resources globally instead of being reliant on diamonds that will be extinct one day, so you have to work hard to be one of the selected specialists to represent the country internationally,” he said.

He also challenged Standard Seven pupils to return the favour of Multotec by scooping first position nationally in this year’s PSLE and emulate the school’s class of 2016. ENDS
