Women drivers of economic growth

26 Mar 2019

Women have been described as key drivers of economic and social growth.

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo said this during International Women’s Day celebrations in Motopi recently.

She said it was crucial to realise the value and worth of a woman in society.  She urged women to assume their responsibility and ensure that their presence and contribution in nation building and in all spheres of life was felt.

Women, she said, had vast and positive impacts in business, agriculture, industry and domestic work among others.

Minister Kenewendo also added that women were dynamic leaders of change and economic empowerment.

Women, she said, had the responsibility to ensure economic growth through all disciplines, adding that raising disciplined children who could contribute towards nurturing the economy and establishing business ventures was one of them.

Ms Kenewendo also urged women to groom and prepare the ground for the future generation to prosper by upgrading their businesses to a large scale and penetrating international markets. Government, she said, was committed to assisting women to develop and enhance their lives by establishing programmes aimed at empowering them.

She further challenged women to modernise and commercialise agricultural products, urging them to revive traditional and indigenous products. The legislator said it was critical to establish what could be done to modernise and commercialise products for exportation.

In addition, she urged them to fight gender based violence in all its forms, saying it was important to remember all those lost their lives through gender based violence. One of the residents, Ms Madiolo Kenosi commended women as unique members of society who stood for tough and difficult situations in life. ENDS
