Job seekers automation in progress

Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development is in the process of automating the registration and placement of job seekers function, with a view to increasing its availability and accessibility to job seekers and employers as well as improving data integrity.

This was said by Minister Tshenolo Mabeo when answering a question from Jwaneng /Mabutsane MP, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile.

Minister Mabeo said from April 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019, a total of 27 379 job seekers were registered in labour offices countrywide.

Out of this number, he added, 15 768 of the registered job seekers were placed in employment.

He further said from the registered job seekers, 19 466 (9 231 males and 10 235 females) were young persons and 10 382 were placed in employment.

Furthermore, Mr Mabeo said out of the 19 466 registered young persons, a total of 13 300 were unskilled, 3 490 were Artisans while 1 306 were Technicians and 1 370 were graduates and professionals.

Mr Mabeo also indicated that according to Botswana Multi-Topic Household Survey 2015/16, the overall unemployment rate was estimated at 17.7 per cent for the population aged 15 years and above, and 17.6 per cent for population aged 18 years and above.

MP Ntlhaile had enquired from the minister the total number of registered job seekers by gender, especially in towns and villages, including the number, qualifications and skills of youth. Ends
