JTC suspected corrupt transactions probe concluded

24 Mar 2019

Investigations regarding suspected corrupt transactions at Jwaneng Town Council were concluded on April 13, 2018.

Administrative action had already been taken against one case out of nine, which had been confirmed to be correct.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said this when answering a question in Parliament on March 21.

Mr Autlwetse said 11 staff members were affected by the investigations, adding that from the nine suspected corrupt transactions that were investigated, there was no evidence on eight, while one allegation was confirmed to be correct.

Member of Parliament for Jwaneng-Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile had asked about the status of investigations regarding suspected corrupt transactions at Jwaneng Town Council.

MP Ntlhaile had wanted to know when the matter was reported to the Ministerial Corruption Prevention Committee, the number of staff affected by investigations and when investigations would be concluded.

Still in Parliament, the assistant minister said the ministry through Central District Council was currently undertaking major maintenance works in the following primary schools in Nkange constituency; Nshamba, Maitengwe and Tutume Central schools.

He said works were also ongoing at Nswazwi Primary School.

Mr Autlwetse said due to financial constraints, his ministry had not been able to secure funds for maintenance of a number of primary schools in the 2019/20 financial year.

The said primary schools are Mengwe, Dagwi, Changate, Nkange, Mabuwe, Senete, Selolwane, Thini, Magapatona, Goshwe and Mpiti.

Mr Autlwetse stated that maintenance for those schools would be considered along other deserving primary schools countrywide in the subsequent years, funds permitting.

He was answering a question posed by MP for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu, who had wanted to know when maintenance works would be done in schools mentioned above as they were in a dilapidated state. Ends
