21 Mar 2019

Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi, says the process of changing defined land uses can be considered to accommodate other uses including horticulture.

Answering a question in Parliament on March 20, Mr Moipisi said Kgatleng Land Board had demarcated 21 horticultural plots along the Madikwe River.

He said Notwane River as a physical feature already traversed different types of existing land uses including existing and growing built up area, being Mochudi village. He said cluster fencing was an objective that was administered under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security, and was also part of the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD)

Mr Moipisi further explained that his Ministry through Land Boards deals mainly with confirmation of ownership and ensuring that the allocation boundaries were correct.

He said the Land Boards recognises and protects the rights of those within the cluster in line with their submitted constitution.

Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Mr Moagi Molebatsi had asked the assistant minister to state if he will consider pre-demarcating horticulture fields alongside Kgatleng Rivers, cluster fencing the said fields and leasing them out to willing farmers. ENDS
