20 Mar 2019

Water shortage in Molepolole has provided business opportunities to some individuals.

One of such is Mr Giel Stroh who started supplying water to the villagers two years ago.

He explained that he had long drilled a borehole in his yard and he has now turned it in to a business.

“I have a lot of vehicles coming in and out of my home especially in the morning and late afternoon to fetch water,” he said.

Mr Stroh gave out 230 000 litres of water per day and sold 20 litres at one Pula.

Although he could not tell how many clients he had, he was certain there was a huge number because his employees knocked off late due to many clients fetching water.

The 81-year-old Stroh said he was saddened by the water scarcity in Molepolole and he shuddered to think what some people drank if they could not afford to buy water.

Mr Letso Busang of Aqua Croc still water started trading last year March.

He started his business because he realised that water in Molepolole had lime and seemed unpalatable.

Therefore, he got in to purification business to help residents have purified water.

Mr Busang said the demand for water became high when it was too hot and month end when people bought in bulk.

“Individuals are our greatest buyers. We refill a litre at P1.30,” he said.

His purifying machines were funded by Youth Development Fund to the tune of P100 000.

However, upon starting the business, he observed that demand was low in winter but it increased a lot in summer hence buying bigger machines to meet the customer needs.

He commended government for continually requesting quotations from his company and believed one day they will get the contract to supply one of the departments.

Another person who took advantage of the water situation was Mr Blessing Mutasa who fixes electrical appliance more especially those with lime.

He started the business in 2017 and used vinegar to get rid of the lime.

He added that he had clients coming from all the villages with lime water such as Thamaga.
