A layout plan for Morwa west expansion area has been development and has yielded 327 plots for different use, Parliament has been told.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi in response to a question from MP for Mochudi West, Mr Gilbert Mangole.
Mr Moipisi said 306 plots would be used for residential, seven for commercial, four for cottage industrial, three civic and community and seven for multi-residential.
“The plots have not been allocated yet as they are awaiting minimal servicing through Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP),” he said.
The assistant minister clarified that the layout for south-east Morwa expansion area would be developed once acquisition of land had been concluded.
He, however, said he was aware that Morwa had limited space for growth as it was surrounded by settlements of Bokaa, Pilane and Mochudi.
He added that it should be noted that settlements naturally grew towards each other and ultimately combined to form extensive inhabited areas.
He cited Mogoditshane, Mmopane, Gabane and Metsimotlhabe as example.
Mr Moipisi said according to the Mochudi Development Plan of 2007-2031, which was approved on September 4, 2008, government Gazette 446 of 2008, Morwa was planned to grow to the west and south east of the village.
“The total area for both sections is 209.6 hectares with an estimated total capacity of 1 250 plots,” he said.
Mochudi West MP had asked the minister if he was aware that Morwa has limited space for growth as it was almost entirely surrounded by Bokaa, Pilane and Mochudi.
He also wanted to know what efforts were being made to acquire additional land for current and future village growth and expansion. ENDS
