Letlhakane hospital drainage experiences blockage

13 Mar 2019

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Biggie Butale says the Letlhakane Primary Hospital drainage system experiences blockages and that it has never been expanded.

Mr Butale said an assessment was carried out by Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) around December 2018.

He said it found that there was a blockage in the internal reticulation which was attended by the ministry in January 2019.

Mr Butale said the capacity of the hospital at construction was 25 beds facility and that it was still the same.

“Despite attending to a blockage in the internal reticulation in January 2019, the hospital experiences frequent blockages and is currently doing an intensive assessment of the whole hospital for a possible upgrading of the whole drainage system during the 2019/20 fiscal year,” he said.

Mr Butale said the leaking drainage system could trigger outbreak of diseases if not attended within reasonable time.

MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe wanted the minister to appraise Parliament on the status of the drainage system at Letlhakane hospital and further state if the drainage was ever expanded or improved to cater for the increase in numbers within the facility.

He also wanted to know when was the improvement or expansion first done, what was the capacity of the hospital then and now, and when would it be improved as it wasted a lot of water.

Mr Lelatisitswe also asked what threats could be posed by the leaking drainage system at the hospital. ENDS
