Jack targets livestock feed market

07 Mar 2019

Mr Lesego Jack (31) is one of young people who dream of making it big in the business world.

After relocating to Tsabong in 2015, Mr Jack said he noticed that there were more opportunities in the livestock feed production, so he started developing more interest since the area had many livestock farmers.

He said he started off as a farmer, then delved into making livestock supplementary feeds after hearing farmers complaining about high prices in Tsabong.

Mr Jack said he started the business with the little money that he earned from part-time jobs, adding that he did not have any machinery, but rather used what was available to him.

He said his business was still new in the area, therefore some customers did not trust in him or his products.

He said even though the business was not making as much money as he anticipated, he was still optimistic.

Mr Jack said he consulted the agriculture research centre to help him with research and sample testing to determine whether his products were good for livestock consumption.

He said the results proved that indeed he was in the right path.

He stated that he needed assistance from the government to buy machinery to help him increase production.

Mr Jack said one other challenge that he faced was lack of a business plot, which will not only help increase production, but with ease of identification.

He said the other challenge was competition from big companies, which were well-known.

He urged the youth to be determined and also have passion for what they did. ENDS
