Letlhakane senior school performance stagnant
03 Mar 2019
Performance of Letlhakane Senior Secondary School has been stagnant since 2013.
Minister of Basic Education, Mr Bagalatia Arone, said the average school’s results for five credits or better since 2013 was 25.3 per cent.
Answering a question in Parliament recently, Mr Arone said the underperformance could be attributed to, among other things, lack of support from parents, lack of commitment by pupils, teachers as well as insufficient in-service support and the learning environment.
Mr Arone said in their view, the school management was competent to lead the school.
“They are all qualified and experienced,” he said, adding that transfers were generally carried out based on needs of the service and some due to pressing needs of individuals.
He said the ministry, was not aware of any attitude issues between the regional and the school staff which could contribute to the school’s underperformance and said they expected performance to improve.
He said the school would undergo major maintenance programme this year to create an environment more conducive for learning.
Boteti East legislator, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to update Parliament on the performance of Letlhakane senior school from 2013 to date and state what factors could be attributed to its performance.
He also wanted to know whether the school management was competent to lead the school, and if not, when would they be transferred and whether the attitude of the region towards the school had an impact on students’ performance. ENDS
