Mahalapye police opens July
14 Feb 2019
Parliament has been told that the Mahalapye Central Police Station will be open for community service in July.
Responding to a question in Parliament, the Minister of Defence Justice and Security Mr Shaw Kgathi said he was aware that the police station had not been opened for community service since its refurbishment.
Mr Kgathi said the project was delayed by the necessary improvements such as enhancing the security of the armoury, provision of a standby generator, expansion of the registry office and improving for accessibility into the station by people living with disability, which includes provision of a rump, handrails and ablution facilities.
In addition, he said, the variations which were not part of the original scope had resulted in cost variation in procurement processes.
“In this context the project variation works was commissioned on January 25 and the site was handed over to the contractor on January 30, the works commenced on February 11 and it is stipulated to take four months,” he said.
He added that once completed and handed over to the Botswana Police Service for use, all operational resources including vehicles would be availed.
Mahalapye West MP Mr Joseph Molefe had wanted to know if the minister was aware that the Central Police Station in Mahalapye had not been open for community service since its refurbishment, when the police station would be open for community service, as well as state the cause of the delay and when the station would be provided with vehicles.
