Non-boarding schools built without kitchens

07 Aug 2013

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole has told Parliament that Montsamaisa and Gold Mine junior secondary schools, just like others without boarding facilities, were built without kitchens.

Responding to a parliamentary question on Tuesday, Mr Masimolole said upon taking over of the schools from the community and in realising the poor state of their kitchens, the ministry took a decision to build better kitchens in all junior schools including Montsamaisa and Gold Mine.

Mr Masimolole said Gold Mine Junior Secondary School was undergoing expansion and the project which was at consultancy stage, would include construction of a better kitchen and other facilities. He also noted that the outdoor cooking area at Montsamaisa had been improved by installing two electric pots and two gas pots.

MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister if he was aware of the state of kitchens at Montsamaisa and Gold Mine schools and whether cooking in open and dilapidated kitchens at the said schools was not a health hazard to the learners. Mr Mmolotsi had also asked when the minister will build better kitchens at the said schools.  ENDS
