Residents appreciate hostels construction
28 Jan 2019
Residents of Seolwane, Mokokwana and Mosweu have commended government for building hostels at Maunatlala Junior Secondary School.
The residents said their children had been suffering for years because they had to travel long distance to school.
They said hostels would save costs since they would be no need to hire transport for children.
The residents said this during kgotla meetings addressed by the Member of Parliament for Lerala/ Maunatlala Mr Prince Maele.
The Mokokwana Village Development Committee chairperson, Ms Diteko Morebodi, said they were hopeful that the school’s academic results would improve because their children would no longer travel long distances.
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development closed the hostels at Maunatlala JSS in 2011 because they were said to be a health hazard.
The residents later on pleaded with the government to construct the hostels because some of them did not have money to hire transport for their children.
The government acceded to their plea and the construction of the hostels which was undertaken through the Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) started in 2016.
The P40 million project entailed boarding master and matron houses, three semi-attached staff houses, supplies warehouse and kitchen, guidance and counselling block, two classrooms, eight bay waterborne toilets a storeroom and boys and girls hostels.
The hostels would accommodate 144 pupils. ENDS
