Molebatsi applauds Matebele Village Development Committee

27 Jan 2019

The MP for Mochudi East, Mr Moagi Molebatsi, has applauded Matebele Village Development Committee (VDC) for its efforts to meet the needs of their constituents.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Matebele recently, Mr Molebatsi said it was encouraging to get positive reports from VDC and  he encouraged residents to support the committee’s initiatives.

In other issues, he said his kgotla meetings were meant to get suggestions from his constituents regarding developments they would want in the village, which he would in turn report to Parliament during the next sitting.

“The next parliament session is scheduled to sit from February 4 to April 12 and I want you to share with me developments you want to have in your area,” he said.

He urged residents to attend kgotla meetings because they were forums where consultations regarding government programmes were done.

Mr Molebatsi further implored his constituents to register for the general elections.

He noted that elections created a platform for Batswana to exercise their constitutional right of choosing their leadership.

For his part VDC chairperson, Mr Mpho Balole, said their committee had bought a water storage tank for Ramodibe settlement to alleviate shortage of water.

He said the settlement, which was previously classified as ploughing fields, had since been incorporated into Matebele.

This, he said, qualified Ramodibe for basic services such as portable water.

Mr Balole therefore called upon the MP to engage Water Utilities Corporation regarding the issue.

Mr Balole also decried the money they were given by council for the preparations of independence celebrations.

He said the P2 900 they received from council was not enough.

He also called on the government to construct the road that connected Matebele and Ramodibe to ease people’s movement.

Mr Balole pleaded for the refurbishment of Ramodibe health post.

Speaking on some of the projects VDC has undertaken, Mr Balole said they were paving roads with the intention to cover the entire village.

VDC treasurer, Mr Kelekwang Mangwa, said they were renting out 10 rooms and they generated P5 850 monthly.

“So far we have P34 500 in our bank account and initially we had P42 689, before we bought the water storage tank for Ramodibe settlement,” he said.

Some of the challenges residents spoke of were livestock theft, house break-ins and lack of land allocation. Ends
