DPP refutes newspaper article

17 Jan 2019

Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has dismissed as misleading a Sunday Standard/The Telegraph Newspaper January 16 article headlined: “DPP PLUMBING ACCIDENT ROILS THE ISAAC KGOSI INVESTIGATION”.

A news release from DPP says “we note with deep concern that the Sunday Standard/The Telegraph Newspaper yesterday on Wednesday January 16 posted an exaggerated and misleading article under the headline “DPP PLUMBING ACCIDENT ROILS THE ISAAC KGOSI INVESTIGATION”.

The fact of the matter is that there was indeed a blockage of some sewage pipes at the DPP HQ offices on the said date, in particular on the 2nd floor which resulted in a water leakage to floors 1, ground and ultimately to the basement where the water came into contact with some electrical cables causing the building to be inhabitable.

Safety measures were immediately implemented by notifying all members of staff and clients to evacuate the building for safety reasons while all the relevant stakeholders worked around the clock to rectify the problem.

And for the record, no files (crucial or otherwise) were destroyed at all. It is therefore very disappointing and disingenuous for the said newspaper to cast aspersions on an unfortunate and/or unrelated incident thereby giving credence to their own conspiracy theories of accidents, coincidence and sabotage.

In the meantime, we would like to assure and inform our clients, stakeholders and members of the public that the DPP is back in business as of today following yesterday’s minor incident.

To the Sunday Standard/The Telegraph newspaper, kindly desist from publishing such untruths which may be detrimental and misinforming to the public.

Otherwise, our offices remain open to any enquiry or clarification from yourselves and any other Media House regarding this unfortunate incident.” DPP
