Cluster reaches out to business community

A Re Chencheng Crime Prevention Cluster in Lobatse has resolved to enlist security companies and business community in its mission to fight crime.
The cluster, which covered Woodhall 1, Maipei, Botoka and Letswelekwadile locations, held position that sharing ideas and crime prevention strategies with the stakeholders would help to combat criminal activities in their area.
Speaking during the cluster’s meeting on January 15, the cluster secretary, Ms Margaret Jeremiah, urged businesses within their area to intensify security by installing surveillance cameras and placing adequate guards.
“The cameras should not only focus on what is happening inside the buildings, but also monitor areas outside the building to capture suspicious movements around the premises,” she said.
She expressed concern about businesses, which continued to hire inadequate guards for their premises, pointing that one guard was not enough to provide adequate security.
The secretary further advised members of the community to install door alarms to enhance security to their homes.
“Our effort together with the Woodhall police in fighting crime have paid dividend since there were few incidents during the festive season. But we should continue working together since the community to ensure that we win the fight against crime,” she said.
Woodhall police station crime prevention unit coordinator, Chaplain Charles Ntema, commended the cluster for doing a great job in the fight against crime, saying it complemented police efforts.
He urged businesses and security companies to work hand in hand with the cluster to ensure that the mission to reduce crime was achieved. ENDS
