Police take gender based violence seriously

14 Jan 2019

Botswana Police Service (BPS) assures the public that it takes Gender Based Violence (GVB) cases seriously by taking reports, carrying out investigations, arresting perpetrators and taking them before justice.

In a press release, BPS states that it has noted the nation’s growing concern over GVB cases affecting women and fear that the victims of GVB might not be enjoying proper protection from the law enforcement agencies.

“BPS, therefore, appeals to members of the public, either victims or witnesses to report GVB cases so that proper action can be taken,” reads the release, adding that the organisation shall continue to do that to ensure that there is the rule of law.

The release further states that BPS advocates for a multi-sectoral approach to GVB cases and it is against this backdrop that it appeals to other stakeholders to join hands in the fight against GVB.

It further assures the public that BPS is a reputable law enforcement agency mandated to ensure public safety and security of the people of Botswana.

“It is for this reason that any case reported is handled with diligence and care and any police officer who defaults on the handling of the case is dealt with accordingly,” it states. ENDS
