Government upholds consultation spirit

14 Jan 2019

The acting President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, says government does not turn a blind eye on issues of national interest.

He said this during a kgotla meeting in Xhumo in his Boteti West constituency recently.

He said Botswana upheld good governance and took its people’s concerns into consideration, hence emphasis on consultation.

Mr Tsogwane stated that consulted was a strategic instrument that played a useful role in the smooth running of government.

He said the believe that challenges presented should be addressed adequately.

Mr Tsogwane assured Batswana that there was no in-fighting in the ruling party, saying the nation should not fear.

One of the residents, Mr Sam Digwa had requested the acting President to clear their fears regarding reports about fights within the ruling party.

Mr Digwa stated that what raised concern was that government media did not report such.

He also complained that stations for supplementary registration were far away.

In response, an elections official said the current supplementary registration was regarded as continuous registration, hence no registration officers were recruited, adding that there were two stations in Rakops for Boteti West and Letlhakane for Boteti East.

Another resident, Mr Gosejwang Gotsileng complained that private security companies were failing to pay their employees.

The senior assistant council secretary, Mr Onthatile Molelu, confirmed that security companies were indeed failing to pay employees, adding that as the accounting officer, he had the authority to withhold payments for security companies that failed to pay their employees. Ends
