Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Mr Abrahm Kesupile has encouraged residents of Sesu to plough their fields.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting recently, he encounraged residents to explore all avenues, including ploughing fields at a larger scale, planting fruit trees and venturing into backyard gardening.
He said although they faced challenges of low rainfall, residents should utilise available rain since they could benefit by sustaining consumption and selling surplus produce.
While appreciating some achievements made in the village, Mr Kesupile applauded the Economic Stimulus Programme for construction of the kgotla office.
He implored the Village Development Committee to take responsibility by making sure that the recently constructed toilets at the kgotla had backup tanks.
When villagers decried delays in the construction of the Sesu-Selokolela road, he explained that the delay was caused by the initial company which abandoned the project mid way.
He noted that it led to re-tendering which took long as the process was cumbersome, causing a halt to the progress of the project.
“More time was spent trying to seek the other suitable company to complete the project,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kesupile thanked Botswana Police Service for their initiative of Operation Kgomo Khumo.
He said Batswana would be assured of the safety of their livestock.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Mokaunyana Dinake appreciated all the developments in the village such as the construction of the kgotla office and the ongoing construction of the Sesu-Selokolela road.
He also requested for cluster fencing of the lands and pleaded with land board officials to speed up the allocation of plots to Sesu youth.
Department of Nationality and Civil Registration official, Ms Tsholofelo Tafa promised that they the office was sorting out the challenges of delays currently experienced in issuing national identification documents.
She noted that the delays were caused by the lack of a stamp at the kgotla, adding that the situation has been solved as the stamp was now available.
“We will announce in due course the dates when our office will be available in the village for parents to register their children and get certificates,” he said. ENDS
