Electricity water challenge to Mokubilo health post
05 Dec 2018
The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Alfred Madigele, says Mokubilo Health Post has experienced intermittent electricity and water challenges over the past two years.
Answering a question in Parliament, Dr Madigele said the problem was due to aged water and electricity reticulations systems.
As a long term measure, he said, the ministry was in the process of rehabilitating the two systems.
He said although there was some inconvenience in the provision of health services, the health post never experienced any direct negative outcomes from this predicament.
Dr Madigele also said security and safety of staff was not optimal in the absence of adequate light but there were no negative incidences reported.
On continuous basis, Dr Madigele said, the District Health Management Team (DHMT) engaged handymen to maintain leakages and affected bulbs.
“DHMT continues to fix the recurrence of electricity and water faults,” he said, concluding that the delay could not be attributed to any specific officer but was due to aged water and electricity reticulation systems which the ministry was in the process of rehabilitating.
Boteti East MP Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe asked the minister whether it was true that Mokubilo Health Post had been without electricity and water for the past two years, and how it had affected the health services in the concerned health post.
He also wanted to know how lack of electricity had exposed staff when they were on call at night, the causes for delay in maintenance of the two components.
The minister was to further explain when they would be fixed and what action would be taken against the officer who stayed for two years without attending to them. Ends
