04 Dec 2018
Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi, said the Private Security Act has partially commenced effective from September 2015.
He said efforts to finalise drafting the regulations and code of conduct were underway in order to provide the necessary legal and administrative environment within which the rest of the act would be commenced.
Minister Kgathi explained that his ministry was at an advanced stage and anticipated to commence the entire Act in April 2019.
He said the regulations and the Code of Conduct had been drafted and were currently with Attorney General for vetting.
‘’With regard to training of security guards, my ministry is currently working closely with the Botswana Qualifications Authority to finalise minimum training standards, ’said Mr Kgathi.
Nkange MP, Mr Edwin Batshu, had asked the minister to update the house on the progress towards full operationalisation of the Private Security Services Act of 2015 and whether regulations to facilitate its implementation had been published and if the necessary training of security guards was in place.
