Moghul restaurant feeds 55 clients of the Otse Home Based Care Trust.

Speaking in an interview, Moghul purchasing manager, Mr Tumiso Tobego, said they started feeding Otse Home Based Care Trust in 2015 after winning a tender to cater for Police College.

“We found it fit to feed them as a way of giving back to the community and make them welcomed in the public. Vulnerable people need love and care, so helping them is restoring their dignity,” he said.

Mr Tobego said helping those in need contributed to the country’s socio economic development, noting that they also had partnership with Otse Youth Club.

He said 80 per cent of Moghul Catering Company staff was from Otse and Mogobane, which he said showed that the company lent a hand in job creation, adding that they also offered training to those who wanted to gain experience and knowledge.

For his part, Otse Home Based Care Trust representative, Mr Alfred Ntshonono, thanked Moghul for the love and generosity, emphasising that they were dealing with vulnerable people hence the need for support is high.

Mr Ntshonono urged companies to prove their good corporate citizenship by supporting Otse Home Based Care Trust, which was a non-governmental organisation that needed financial support to fulfil its objectives.

Moreover, he said at the height of the HIV/AIDS scourge, Otse Home Based Care lobbied the health ministry to support home based care activities by providing nursing materials, food for needy patients and allocating more nurses to the community.

He said as a result, the health of the Otse community greatly improved as proven by a dramatic reduction in the numbers of families caring for bedridden patients and those that lost their loved ones due to HIV/AIDS.

Mr Ntshonono said in 2007, the home based care was registered as a trust and expanded its services to provide care and support for Orphans and Vulnerable children (OVCs) in 2008.

“Our mission is to compassionately provide high-quality, comprehensive health care support services for communities of Botswana based on regional and international practices,” he said.

Otse Home Based Care was formed in 1991 as a voluntary service by two retired nurses and evolved into a community driven response to combat HIV/AIDS at the household level. It assists families to provide care and support for chronically and terminally ill people in Otse. ENDS
