74 houses under authority of SPEDU
03 Dec 2018
Parliament has been told that 15 out of the 74 plots under the SPEDU authority have been allocated to investors since April 2017.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Moisiraele Goya said the plots had been allocated to Litchfield Group, Extreme Electrix, Zila Investments, A.S.A Enterprises, Stepping Line, France Glass, Mzico Welding Services, HI-QUA, Vision Step, Brown Leaf, Click Africa, Cathy Fashion, Road-Quip, Other Investments and Patrick Lekene.
Mr Goya said none of the plots had been fully developed, thus the investors-development covenants are valid until May 2019 after which SPEDU would recommend to the Ministry of Land, Water and Sanitation Services that the plots be repossessed and re-allocated.
Mr Goya said reasons advanced for not developing the plots included pending approval of designs by Selebi Phikwe Town Council.
Further, he stated that some had their designs approved and construction was expected to commence by February 2019 while some were delayed by financial institutions, which had not yet approved the financing component.
“SPEDU continues to engage the investors to adhere to development covenants as stipulated,’’ he said.
MP for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister the number of plots allocated to investors and what are the names and numbers fully developed. The minister was also asked reasons advanced for not developing and what was being done to address the issue. Ends
