Engage legit security companies - Tsimako

03 Dec 2018

Council authorities have been advised to abide by the law and engage security companies that are in compliance with the regulations of the security licensing board.

Security licensing board chairperson, Mr Thebeyame Tsimako said private security companies must be scrutinised prior to awarding tenders to ensure compliance and legitimacy of the company.

Mr Tsimako said this recently when addressing Mahalapye Sub-council session. He said private security must comply with the guiding principles bearing in mind that they were given a responsibility to safeguard government property worth millions.

Mr Tsimako said being a security guard was not childish responsibility, but a huge responsibility that must be taken seriously.

He appealed to Mahalapye Sub-council authorities to join hands with the security licensing board and encourage security companies to comply with the security act. He said the board that he served was formed to oversee the licensing of security companies.

Mr Tsimako also informed the authorities that regulations and code of conduct for private security companies had been finalised. He emphasised that security companies should have a clear track record and must engage trained personnel who understand their line of duty.

He added that security companies must comply with the recommended age of security guards of between 18 years and 65 years, warning that engaging those who were outside the age category would be in violation of the law. Mr Tsimako was equally concerned by security companies that were failing to pay their employees. ENDS
