Accommodation still challenge across camps
02 Dec 2018
Accommodation shortage remains a challenge across all Botswana Defence Force (BDF) camps. Responding to a question on behalf of Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Thato Kwerepe said the ministry continued to alleviate the shortage through leasing of houses from Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC), government pool, private property owners, including acquisition of gated estates.
He said in the current financial year, the BDF was at an advanced stage to conclude procurement of a gated estate in Francistown which would ease accommodation shortage in the northern and eastern sectors. Mr Kwerepe said the 100 men barrack block was still not connected to either potable water or sewer system after the contractor who was awarded the works.
He said Kenrad Engineering failed to complete the works and that BHC was engaged. He said the recommended system led to a revision of the initial schedule of works, and that BHC had to design new specifications for a much more complex vacuum sewer system and was expected to be completed in April 2019. Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister to explain the situation on shared accommodation and the 100 men block water and sewage system situation. Ends
