Road contsruction to ease A1 congestion

Mochudi East Member of Parliament, Mr Moagi Molebatsi says government should construct a road connecting Kgatleng East river villages such as Mabalane and Sikwane with the Tuli Block areas of the Central District to help ease congestion on the A1 road.
Contributing to the ongoing State-of-the-Nation Address, Mr Molebatsi said the road network in his constituency was poor, and that it needed to be addressed. He added that building the Sikwane-Tuli Block road was something worthy of consideration, as it would also have good economic benefit for the country.
“This would be of benefit to people travelling to the Tswapong and Bobirwa Sub-districts of the Central District as well as the people of Kgatleng District, particularly those in my constituency which is a vast area that was once properly named ‘Kgatleng East,’ but has since been renamed ‘Mochudi East,’ which does not properly reflect its geographical location,” Mr Molebatsi said.
He also lamented that poverty was rife in his constituency and called on the government to address the issue of shortage of water provision in his constituency, which he said was used to provide water to other areas, in particular Gaborone.
“We have wells being reticulated and the water sent to Gaborone, and next to us we have South Africa where our people work in farms where water from the Limpopo and Madikwe are used for irrigation purposes, but on our side such water is only passed to Gaborone. Our people are also important, they also need water for consumption, and we could also set up large scale irrigation projects to boost economic activity in our area,” Mr Molebatsi said.
He also urged government to build projects that could boost economic and cultural activity in the Kgatleng District. He complained that when the construction of mini stadiums were announced in SONA, none was earmarked for the district.
“We need a stadium in Kgatleng. We have a good football team, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, which draws crowds whenever they play and our region is also known for its good reputation of cultural events such as traditional music, with Bakgatla being well-known for their singing talent. We need such facilities for our people to be able to express their talents,” Mr Molebatsi concluded. ENDS
