Kgalagadi District is a potential tourist destination and a place full of opportunities waiting to be tapped and discovered, council chairperson, Mr Frans van der Westhuizen has said.
Speaking during an award ceremony following the agro-tourism show on Saturday, Mr van der Westhuizen appealed to the residents to recognise the area’s potential and take advantage while there was still time. He urged farmers and those in other businesses to take higher business risks as a way of investing in the district.
“I hope we will rise to the challenge and make ourselves proud and compare to the likes of Ghanzi,” Mr van der Westhuizen said. On other issues, he commended the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund for their continued support for the Tsabong show.
“We are humbled by your kindness and support,” he said in appreciation of MVA Fund’s benevolence. MVA Fund sponsored the dinner at an unspecified fee, bought kits for participating football teams and sponsored prizes for the beauty pageants.
MVA Fund also sponsored horse racing to the tune of P22 000 and also dressed the riders. At the award ceremony, Tsabong Show committee also unveiled their logo which would be used in future events.
In the logo is a camel on the sand dunes signifying tourism and the uniqueness of the Kgalagadi geography. A bull, a billy goat and beans represent agriculture. The tagline for the logo is, ‘Adventure, Interaction and Trade.’
