Late Botswana Democratic Party stalwart Major General Joyce Motang has been described as an icon who worked tirelessly for the nation.

Speaking at a memorial service on September 18, BDP chairman  Mr Slumber Tsogwane said the nation had lost an icon and a hard worker and a loyal member of the party.

Mr Tsogwane, also vice president, said the deceased had the character of a visionary leader who was always willing to go an extra mile for his country. He said he volunteered to build the party in the Goodhope region, believed in maintaining peace among BDP members and desired good results.

It was vital, he said, for BDP members to introspect, and adopt what the deceased believed in so that the party and the nation could prosper.

Speaking at the same occasion, Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Eric Molale said the late major general valued time and respected everyone.

Mr Molale advised people to learn from the deceased and be role models for the development of the country.

In an interview, Goodhope Sub District chairperson Ms Maobene Molefe said she worked with the deceased when he was a councillor for Goodhope Ward in 2005.

She said after he retired from the Botswana Defence Force, Major General Motang joined Rolong Land Board for two terms before becoming a councillor.
