Debswana investigates fatal accident

Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) management is investigating a fatal accident which occurred at Orapa mine on September 13.
In a media release, the company reported that the accident occurred at the OLDM fine rescue disposal construction site and that it claimed the life of Mr Moemedi Mpho who hailed from Shoshong.
The deceased was employed by Kalcon Excavator Hire as a spotter at the construction site.
According to the media release, the family of the deceased has been informed and are receiving the necessary support.
The cause of the accident is not yet known and investigations of the incident are ongoing.
It further says Debswana remains committed to putting safety first at all times. “We will continue to ensure that we uphold our safety and that of the people around us.”
The unforeseen accident has resulted in the postponement of the annual Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines general manager’s Charity Walk which was scheduled for September 15.
