Needy students of Borolong receive blankets

16 Sep 2018

Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Fidelis Molao has donated 150 blankets to needy boarding students of Tlhabologang Junior Secondary School in Borolong.

Speaking at the donation recently, Mr Molao, who is also the area MP, said he had decided to donate blankets to boarding students because they felt nostalgic whenever they had problems, which they could not easily communicate to their parents.

He explained that those students needed assistance because of their position in society, saying the donation would motivate them to improve on their results.

Mr Molao further stated that similar donations would be extended to other schools with the same students and appealed to parents to work hand in hand with teachers in improving their children’s education.

He said the introduction of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) was a welcome development in addressing many issues in the education sector.

Earlier on in his welcome remarks, Tlhabologang school head Mr Teedzani Mkandla informed the minister about a number of challenges mainly home sickness by boarding students.

The school head further stated that the donation would bring dignity to the students because most of their blankets were worn out, saying with the donation, the students would be able to improve their academic performance.

He said the school had managed to build six staff flats, each with four housing units under the ESP, adding that the staff accommodation would boost the teachers' morale to deliver on their mandate.

He also said the school managed to source funds for the construction of four school toilets including those of students living with disabilities.

Giving a vote of thanks, chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association Ms Mamosala Baitsiwe and Tonota Sub-district principal education officer, Ms Chekula Mahama thanked the minister for showing love and compassion by donating to needy students.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to get serious about their education so that they could use it to improve their lives and that of their families. ENDS
