Police officer pleads for help to build better nation

13 Sep 2018

Sergeant Phillip Lopang of Botswana Police Serice has urged churches to put police officers in their prayers because they were doing a difficult job of building a better country.

Sgt Lopang said this during the No.15 police district month of prayer against HIV/AIDS launch at The Rock Christian Church in Francistown recently.

Pastors from different churches in Francistown and police officers joined forces and prayed against HIV/AIDS, crime and violence against women and children in the country.

Sgt Lopang said police work entailed dealing with difficult and sensitive issues,  and that they had to be always physically and emotionally fit, including free from HIV/AIDS.

He advised police officers to be faithful to their partners as having many sexual partners increased chances of contacting HIV. He quoted from the Bible that God created Adam and later created Eve which showed that God encouraged only two people in a relationship. Sgt Lopang also urged police officers to embrace God in order to help them have a positive behaviour so that they lead by example as the public experts them to. He added that issues such as crime, road accidents and violence could be eliminated through prayer.

Sgt Lopang stated that poor relationships and lack of cooperation with the police by the public frustrated efforts of crime prevention, protecting the public and their properties.

Reverend Khumoyame Maoto of Spiritual Healing Church in Francistown said churches should work together in praying against road accidents.

He added that lives were lost daily due to road accidents. He noted that they mostly affected the youth who were the future leaders. He said churches should speak against alcohol and drug abuse, saying they were some of the major causes of road accidents in Botswana.

He pleaded with the police to always involve churches in their activities such as road safety campaigns, especially during holidays when people travelled a lot. ENDS
