IEC corrects registration mistake in Jwaneng

A chief elections officer, Mr Isaac Koogotsitse, says the registration process for next year’s general elections is going well in the Kanye/Jwaneng cluster save for a small glitch that occurred in two polling districts in Jwaneng.
He said they a tent, which was supposed to be placed at Raphalane polling district in Unit 6, was wrongly placed at Ngami polling district in Unit 1 where a total of 14 voters were registered. He said this emanated from the confusion between Teemane open space and Teemane primary school polling stations which are in Unit 6 and Unit 1 respectively.
However, he said upon discovering this mistake, the officers immediately moved the tent to the correct location and the mix up will be corrected as soon as possible.
“We called a special Party Liaison Committee meeting and a resolution was made to trace those 14 voters so that they could register at the rightful polling station. The good thing is that we have their plot numbers and therefore tracing them would be easy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Koogotsitse has urged people to register in large numbers so that they could be able to vote in next year’s general election.
He said even though there would be supplementary registration, they encourage people to register during the first phase to avoid congestion at a later stage. ENDS
