11 Sep 2018

Acting deputy director at research and financial stability department of Bank of Botswana, Mr Innocent Molalapata has urged Mater Spei College students to exercise high levels of discipline, commitment and hard-work in order to achieve excellent academic results.

Speaking during a prize giving ceremony recently, he commended the award recipients for their commitment to excellence, adding they should keep working hard.

However, he urged them not to be selfish and self-centered in their learning and assist and support those who have not been able to attain prizes so that they too help elevate their school academic results.

“You should not leave them behind because they also have something to offer for your future achievements and endeavours as a school, together you are the future of the nation,” he added.

He noted that even though they are celebrating, they should also bear in mind that there are a series of challenges ahead of envisaged victory such as stress and depression from pressure to excel, the negative energy that may arise from drug abuse and addiction, and as such encouraged them to seek help when faced with such challenges.

Mr Molalapata commended the institution for committing to providing quality education, which is key to producing globally competitive citizens and a skilled productive labour.

He noted that quality education led to patriotic citizens who would uphold the democratic ideals and principles therefore the institution must pride itself for producing citizens who positively contribute to the economy.

In addition, he applauded parents for their engagement and input towards the realisation of quality education.

“It is not the duty of the teachers only to ensure that students are well-mannered and take their academics seriously, parents must also support their children, teach them acceptable behaviours and conduct which too contribute much to the performance,” he said.

Parents and Teachers Association chairperson Mr Joseph Fani encouraged those who did not get awards to improve their performance. ENDS
