Nata Service Centre plan on progress

31 Jul 2013

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says Nata Service Centre rationalisation plan is progressing well.

Answering a question in Parliament, Ms Tshireletso said three porta cabins offering shared accommodation of nine units had been supplied and electrified and six residential houses were rented from the local market. She said the total number of officers to man the service centre from the council was 13.

The number, she said, comprised of eight officers already transferred from Tutume to Nata and those that had already been serving in Nata, being one bye-law enforcement officer, two from social and community development and two drivers.

She said the district commissioner still provided mobile services until residential accommodation is secured. “It should be noted that there are other government departments serving the service entre,” she said.

Furthermore, she said construction of the district commissioner’s offices in Nata started in August 2012 and the expected completion date was March 2013.

She explained that the delay in completion of the office was caused by termination of contract by the contracted builder due to a dispute over the tender sum.

Therefore, she said the project was awarded to another contractor on June 27, 2013 and it was expected to be completed by December 31, 2013.

Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Rayner Makosha had asked the minister to brief the Parliament on the progress made regarding the Nata Service Centre rationalisation plan.

Mr Makosha also wanted the minister to state the number of people who had been seconded to Nata Service Centre from Tutume Sub-District, their ranks and reasons for the delay in the completion of the district commissioner’s offices in Nata. Ends
