State President does not fund Nxaraga Trust
31 Jul 2013
Nxaraga Trust Management Plan is not financed from State President, says Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Masisi said trust management funds were normally from Botswana Tourism Board royalty fees.
He further stated that 115 resident houses would be built in the whole of North West District at the cost of P45 000 each for people whose households were affected by floods in November, December and Bombadi ward would be included. The houses, he said, were to be completed before the next rainy season and the total sub warrant was over P5 million.
Mr Masisi stated that the district commissioner submitted a waiver for selective tender of eight companies which was approved by MTC and out of these, only three tendered but they all failed the compliance stage.
The district commissioner for North West, he pointed out, had since been advised by the Ministerial Tender Committee on July 30, 2013 to request for direct appointment of the three companies. He said it would be financed under the Disaster Relief (special expenditure) vote 0202- 71201.
He stated that expenditure to build the houses could not be sourced from lease royalty fees from tourism concessions or alternatively from a resourced constituency fund as the proposed houses are a relief measure for those people who were affected by floods.
Member of Parliament for Maun West, Mr Tawana Moremi had asked him to state the vote that was used by the State President to finance Nxaraga Trust Management Plan. Mr Moremi also wanted the minister to state the completion of resident houses in Bombadi as promised on Botswana Television in July 2013.
In addition, he asked minister to state whether such expenditure could not be sourced from lease royalty fees from tourism concessions or alternatively from a resourced constituency fund. Ends
