Kokorwe promotes registration

04 Sep 2018

Speaker of the National Assembly Ms Gladys Kokorwe has appealed to eligible voters to register in the ongoing registration exercise.

The exercise commenced yesterday and ends November 11.

Meanwhile Ms Kokorwe has led by example by being the first person to register at Ramaphatle Primary School polling station.

In an interview, she expressed disappointment at the slow start to the exercise in the village.

Ms Kokorwe lamented that generally, Batswana did not register and vote in large numbers, stressing the need to change.

“Let us challenge ourselves and surprise ourselves and the world, let us register in large numbers,” she pleaded.

Ms Kokorwe said society must ensure the elderly were assisted to register for the elections.

In a man in the streat interview, some Ramaphatle residents said they would register at a later date while others were not even aware the registration exercise was on.

Mr Tshepo Makgothu, 19, who would be a first time voter, professed ignorance of the exercise but said he would register at a later date.

Another resident, Ms Atang Khutshwane said she was aware of the exercise. She also promised to register at a later date.

She said the Ramaphatle Primary School polling station was too far from some parts of the village and therefore might contribute to some people not registering.

To register, one should be a citizen of Botswana, aged 18 or above and in possession of a valid national identity card (Omang). Ends
