IMF conducts debt workshop

03 Sep 2018

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), hosted by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, will be conducting a workshop on government finance statistics and public sector debt statistics from yesterday to Friday in Gaborone.

A news release from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development states that the workshop is conducted under a project called the Enhanced Data Dissemination Initiative funded by the Department for International Development, UK, and is on its second phase.

The release further states that the objectives of the workshop are to review progress made on the implementation of work plans developed during the launch of the project in August 2015, and also improve compilation and dissemination of government finance statistics and debt data in nine sub-Saharan countries.

The workshop is attended by officials from Botswana, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

It says Botswana has participated in the project since its implementation in 2015.

The workshop was to be officially opened by the acting permanent secretary Ms Grace Muzila.
